4.1Profile management with FSLogix

On pooled hosts, users sign in to a different VM each time, so user profiles are stored as containers (VHD/VHDX) on shared storage and mounted at logon. FSLogix handles this.

4.1.1Profile Container and ODFC

Profile Container carries the entire user profile in one container (the baseline). ODFC (Office Container) separates only Office/Outlook data (OST, search index, Teams cache, etc.) into its own container—used when you manage the full profile separately but want to accelerate just the Office experience. Often Profile Container is the baseline, with ODFC added as needed.

4.1.2Cloud Cache and application masking

Cloud Cache redundantly stores profile containers across multiple storage providers (multiple regions/accounts), providing high availability/BCDR that continues if one fails (local cache + async replication). For "make profiles redundant across regions," Cloud Cache is the answer. Application masking (app masking) shows or hides apps per user/group on the same image, giving different app visibility to multiple audiences from one golden image (also useful for license control).
